Iloilo City, DepEd to start anti-drugs campaign in public high schools

CITY, July 29 (PNA) – The city government here in cooperation with the
Department of Education (DepEd) will strengthen its anti-drugs campaign
among the youth by conducting several symposia in public high schools.
The campaign will be spearheaded by the Iloilo Task Force on
Anti-Drug Abuse and Education starting on the first week of August.
Amante Espejo, chairman of the task force, said that the
campaign will begin with Melchor Nava Memorial National High School on
August 5. He said that the campaign will be held on at least 13 national
high schools until October.
Schools scheduled for the drugs symposia in the month of
August include La Paz National High School, Ramon Avanceña National High
School, Jaro National High School, RG Hechanova National High School,
Iloilo City National High School, Buntatala National High School, and
Mandurriao National High School.
Espejo said that this initiative is part of the city
government’s effort in stopping the use of dangerous drug among
students.
Schools division superintendent Dr. Erlinda Gencaya said
that they aim to educate high school students on the dangers of illicit
drugs and its adverse effect on health. They are specifically targeting
students in the third and fourth years.
Gencaya added that they will also request the cooperation of
teachers and parents to participate in the activity as it will increase
the awareness among the community and schools.
The drugs symposia will be discussed by representatives from
the PDEA, the city information officer and other invited guests. (PNA)
