Iloilo City, DepEd to start anti-drugs campaign in public high schools

ILOILO CITY, July 29 (PNA) – The city government here in cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd) will strengthen its anti-drugs campaign among the youth by conducting several symposia in public high schools.

The campaign will be spearheaded by the Iloilo Task Force on Anti-Drug Abuse and Education starting on the first week of August.

Amante Espejo, chairman of the task force, said that the campaign will begin with Melchor Nava Memorial National High School on August 5. He said that the campaign will be held on at least 13 national high schools until October.

Schools scheduled for the drugs symposia in the month of August include La Paz National High School, Ramon Avanceña National High School, Jaro National High School, RG Hechanova National High School, Iloilo City National High School, Buntatala National High School, and Mandurriao National High School.

Espejo said that this initiative is part of the city government’s effort in stopping the use of dangerous drug among students.

Schools division superintendent Dr. Erlinda Gencaya said that they aim to educate high school students on the dangers of illicit drugs and its adverse effect on health. They are specifically targeting students in the third and fourth years.

Gencaya added that they will also request the cooperation of teachers and parents to participate in the activity as it will increase the awareness among the community and schools.

The drugs symposia will be discussed by representatives from the PDEA, the city information officer and other invited guests. (PNA)
