City gov’t appeals for community support in anti-dengue advocacy
ILOILO
CITY, July 29 (PNA) – Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is calling
on the support of the community in the city’s anti-dengue drive.
City dengue coordinator Dr. Mae Delmo disclosed that some 81
barangays of the city are already affected by the dengue with some 138
initial cases already recorded although no casualty was reported.
Of the number, 126 were recorded from January to June and an
initial 12 cases this July.
Delmo said they are expecting an increase in the number of
cases with the onset of the rainy season.
Meantime, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said they have already
tapped the support of various volunteer groups such as barangay service
point officers (BSPO), barangay health workers (BHWs) and barangay
nutrition scholars (BNS) for the complete information dissemination on
how to avoid the disease which is caused by the Aedis Aegypti mosquito.
The mayor said no amount of blood letting can solve the
dengue problem if the community will not cooperate in ridding their
places of mosquito-breeding ground.
“What is important is for them to discard their breeding
places which can be done if our residents only clean their
surroundings,” the mayor said.
The city government, through the City Health Office (CHO),
is slated to conduct its first blood-letting activity on August 23.
