Army honors AFP vice chief
MANILA,
July 6 (PNA) - The Philippine Army honors Lt. Gen. Nestor Z. Ochoa in a
testimonial review Tuesday afternoon at the Army grandstand in Fort
Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Ochoa, who is the AFP Vice Chief of Staff, assumed the post
of the AFP chief of staff in an acting capacity following the retirement
of Gen. Delfin N. Bangit last June 22, 2010.
Ochoa relinquished the post and re-assumed as AFP Vice Chief
of Staff after President Benigno C. Aquino III appointed Lt. Gen.
Ricardo A. David Jr as permanent chief of staff last July 2.
A native of Ilagan, Isabela, Ochoa started his military
career when he graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in March
1977. His first assignment was with the Scout Ranger Training Unit,
Philippine Army. He went on to hold administrative and operational
positions in different units throughout the country.
For over 30 years of service, he held several key positions
such as the Commanding Officer of the Presidential Guard Battalion and
Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations of the Presidential Security
Group; Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence of the First Scout
Ranger Regiment; Battalion Commander of the 48th Infantry Battalion, 5th
Infantry Division, Philippine Army and Assistant Chief of Staff for
Training, G8 Philippine Army. It was during his stint as Brigade
Commander of the 102nd Infantry Brigade in Mindanao when he got his
promotion to Brigadier General.
After which he became the Chief of AFP Command Center and
later Chief, Office of The Internal Auditor at the General Headquarters
where he got his promotion to Major General.
He then assumed as Commander, 3rd Infantry Division and
later the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army located in Western and
Central Visayas and Northern Luzon, respectively. He later became the
second Commander of the AFP National Development Support Command
(NADESCOM) on November 2009, where he was promoted to Lieutenant
General.
Ochoa took his Infantry Officer Basic Course at the US Army
Infantry School in 1984-1985. He also finished his General Staff Course
at the Australian Army Command and Staff College and Master of Defense
Studies at the University of Canberra, Australia on December 1999.
Officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian employees of the
Philippine Army paid tribute to "a professional soldier and dedicated
public servant."
"The Philippine Army manifests, through this testimonial
review, its respect and admiration for Lt. Gen. Ochoa for his committed
service in the Armed Forces of the Philippines," said Army spokesman
